The Lake of Menteith Hotel is a hidden gem, located within The Trossachs National Park yet easily accessible, being an hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh and twen from both Loch Lomond and the ancient city of Stirling. The location of Scotland’s only natural lake is steeped in history. It contains Inchmahome Priory, a now abandoned Augustinian priory formed in 1238, where for centuries boats have made their way between the nearby pier at Port of Menteith and the Priory on the Isle of Inchmahome, some of which carried Mary Queen of Scots and many other notable guests to an fro. The heart of the hotel was the former manse, possibly very late 18th century, with the hotel itself dating from 1854.

Now with guests from all over the world, the hotel has since undergone a transformation in sympathy with its surroundings into what is now an award winning romantic and inviting country hotel, where a warm Scottish welcome awaits. On offer are en-suite rooms on the ground and first floor to suit different budgets, some boasting beautiful lake views. Guests can take lunch or dinner in the glass fronted lakeside formal dining room where fresh food is cooked to order by a passionate and dedicated team of chefs. The menu delivers honest, tasty and plentiful dishes, sourced as locally as possible, served without fuss and pretension. The Port Bar, a cosy inviting space to enjoy a drink or two, takes you out onto the terrace and the banks of the Lake for the ultimate panoramic view and photo opportunity.

Waterfront location

5 star ratingGorgeous location Few hotels offer such a stunning location - in this case, right on the shore of the Lake of Menteith. To make the most of it, you might want to book a 'Lake Superior' room on the first floor, as we did. At over £100 per person per night for B&B, it is obviously not cheap but the views were superb.

The hotel is a converted manse with a fine conservatory built along its frontage to accommodate the dining room, making the most of the lake views. Parking will surely be more than adequate most of the time. Food was extremely good and the breakfasts were among the best we have experienced in a hotel for a long time. All staff were first class.

Our room was large with a canopy bed, a huge bathroom and even a dressing room connecting the two. Everything was comfortable and well maintained. The only slight negative was the electric wall heaters; it was tricky to set a decent balance in temperature.

5 star ratingOvernight Sunday stay Just returned from another lovely stay at the Lake of Menteith. The weather was glorious for November making the outlook from the hotel simply stunning.
The staff make you so welcome and we were very lucky to have a Lake view room.
Dinner and breakfast were both good and pleased with the options for vegetarians.
We will be back again!

5 star rating5* stay. Cannot wait to come back What a fantastic experience we had. From arrival to departure, the service was excellent. We stayed in the Menteith suite and just wow! The room was beautiful. There's a terrace outside we shared with another room but no one was there. Dinner was excellent and the staff were very attentive. We had breakfast with our stay also, this was perfect. We managed to catch all the fishermen/women travelling out onto the lake, which was a sight in itself!

My partner and I have agreed that we will visit this hotel as often as possible. I cannot stress how much of a wonderful time we had. So special.
