  • 5 star ratingFew hotels offer such a stunning location - in this case, right on the shore of the Lake of Menteith. To make the most of it, you might want to book a 'Lake Superior' room on the first floor, as we did. At over £100 per person per night for B&B, it is obviously not cheap but the views were superb.

The hotel is a converted manse with a fine conservatory built along its frontage to accommodate the dining room, making the most of the lake views. Parking will surely be more than adequate most of the time. Food was extremely good and the breakfasts were among the best we have experienced in a hotel for a long time. All staff were first class.

Our room was large with a canopy bed, a huge bathroom and even a dressing room connecting the two. Everything was comfortable and well maintained. The only slight negative was the electric wall heaters; it was tricky to set a decent balance in temperature.

4 star ratingWe stayed here while walking the West highland way. There were plenty of other walkers alongside a couple of families. One of the staff members collected us from the pier because it’s a bit of a walk uphill from the way. They run this free shuttle service for all guests.
The twin room was small and a bit rickety but clean.
Upstairs the bistro is nice, with features from the old church. The food was really tasty and a good selection of drinks.
There was no phone signal but free WiFi (it went on and off at times but was generally fine).
There was a drying room but it was a bit overwhelmed by the volume of stuff from a full house of people who’d gotten soaked on the walk!! Might be worth the hostel having a system in place for these instances.
The shower block is outside alongside a self-catering kitchen.

5 star ratingWe had a great stay in the Bunkhouse on our second day on the WHW. The place has a special atmosphere, and a wonderful and helpful staff. The bar is splendid after a long and exhaustive day on the WHW. Thank you for all!
